The last great North American Gold Rush brought miners and prospectors from the goldfields of California, north through Seattle and British Columbia and into Alaska and the Yukon. The route taken by those adventurers, known as "The Trail of '98", is the inspiration behind our Alaska Cruise & West Coast Train Tour. Since the trip north was so arduous in those days, and often did not lead to a good outcome, we decided to flip it on its head and take you from North to South instead.

We begin with an Inside Passage Cruise on Holland America Line's ms Westerdam that visits the Alaskan towns of Ketchikan, Juneau and Sitka, and includes a full day of cruising in Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve. We then return south to Seattle where you transfer to Amtrak's Coast Starlight, where you will enjoy a great American rail trip south along the Cascades through Washington, Oregon and California, ending near Napa - the center of American Wine Country.
